Going away for the weekend can sometimes be even more tricky to pack for than going on a full-blown holiday… Why? Because, if you are like me, you still want to make sure you’ve got every possible situation covered: beach – check; walking round town – check; night out – check; rain/sun/snow – check; and so it goes on…
So here are a few of my weekend essentials (in no particular order!):
Rise Gear Glider Portable Shelving Carry-On Luggage (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rise-Gear-Portable-Shelving-Luggage/dp/B01N331I3U) This is one for you if you hate unpacking when you arrive (particularly annoying if you are only away for a few nights). This small cabin size case is ideal for short trips as there is no need to unpack – you just hang it straight up in the wardrobe and voila, a shelving unit full of clothes!
Flip flops. I never go anywhere without a pair of flip flops (this is a throwback to my backpacking days when some of the places I stayed in were not as clean as they might have been!). They can be worn by the pool, for wandering around in the daytime or, if you go for a sparkly pair, they can also be worn in the evening. And they don’t take up much room in your bag either, which is a bonus! My favourites are definitely Havaianas (http://www.havaianas-store.com/en) as they come in so many different styles and colours!
A hoodie. Great for keeping you warm on a chilly aeroplane, you can tie it round your waste in the daytime if it’s warm, or throw it on for that late-night stroll along the beach. I am a big fan of Superdry (https://www.superdry.com/) – lovely colours, nice fabric and can be washed over and over again and still look great.
Comfortable shoes! If I know I’m going on a trip where there will be a lot of sightseeing I always make sure I have a pair of shoes that I will be comfortable in all day. My favourites by far are Skechers Go Walk (https://www.skechers.com/en-gb/) – they are the comfiest, most lightweight shoes I have found and they are available in various styles and colours.
My camera. I NEVER go anywhere without at least one camera! I am a big fan of bridge cameras as they take up less space than my DSLR with its separate lenses, flash gun, etc (and don’t weigh as much) but offer more creative options than my compact camera. I currently use the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS (Canon Powershot SX60 HS) and find it does everything I need it to do.
Travel products. I hate trying to squeeze a massive wash kit into my bag when I’m only going away for a few days so tend to try and have a travel wash kit ready to go. Most of the big brands do travel products and, in some cases, offer travel skincare kits. My favourite is the Clarins Essential Cleansing Travel Size Trio for Normal or Combination Skin (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clarins-Essential-Cleansing-Travel-Combination/dp/B01LFP0WW4), which includes cleanser, toner and eye make-up remover.
A Tangle Teezer (https://www.tangleteezer.com/). My hair is long and fine and I almost always wear it down so the slightest breeze and it starts to look untidy! This is small enough to fit in your handbag to tame your locks throughout the day – after all, it’s important to look your best in your holiday snaps!
My iPod Touch (https://www.apple.com/uk/ipod-touch/). I love music, and whilst I enjoy listening to the local music wherever I go, I like to take my own music for when I am travelling or in my hotel room getting ready to head out.
Now all you need to do is pack your clothes and enjoy your weekend away!
