A Road Trip through Eastern Canada in Photos

I’ll be honest, it’s a long time since we were in Canada, but it made a big impression on me… there is just so much to see and do!  We hired a car and spent two weeks covering several thousand miles to see everything we wanted to see – it was not the most relaxing holiday, but we loved it!

And here are some of my favourite photos of places we visited and things we did… I hope it gives you a taste of just one part of this amazing country!

If you visit Toronto, head up the CN Tower for a great view of the city, before taking a tour of the impressive Rogers Centre (formerly SkyDome)….

No visit to Ontario would be complete without a visit to the spectacular Niagara Falls and a soggy ride on the legendary Maid of the Mist…

We spent a pleasant night aboard the Alexander Henry in Kingston – staying in the Chief Engineers’ Cabin was quite an experience and gave us a real taste of what life on board must have been like.  It is definitely one of the most unusual places I’ve spent the night!

Historic Quebec City is a lovely place to wander around, with its fortifications and narrow streets.

Head East to the pretty village of Tadoussac where you can stay at the beautifully located Hotel Tadoussac, with its fabulous views over the channel where the Saguenay and Saint Lawrence Rivers meet.  Then take a rib out to watch various species of whales up close…

Those are a few of my favourite photos from our road trip – I hope they have inspired you to visit Canada? Next time we plan to visit Western Canada and check out what that has to offer… so watch this space!

Happy Travelling

Note: All these photos were taken on a film camera (in the pre-digital age!) and scanned in hence the slightly grainy appearance.

  5. Ontario is now considered Eastern Canada? I grew up in Nova Scotia and we always thought Ontario was fairly middling, lol! The Maritimes are Eastern – NS, PEI, NB and Newfoundland. Great place to visit though. 😉

    1. I guess for most non-Canadians, visiting Western Canada means going to the Rockies and visiting the other side is considered visiting the East (which is not to say that is correct lol)! In my defence, from a geographical point of view, from Toronto up through Quebec is very much towards the east side of the country!
Either way, it was great – we loved it!

  7. Ended up on your blog after I searched for posts about the Niagara Falls and the CN Tower. I live in the Netherlands and desperately want to travel to Canada to see it at least once so research is mandatory since it will be quite a long travel. While reading through the article I thought to myself; you got to ask this lady what filter she is using because they look so charmingly retro. Nevermind me, scans of old photos. =D

    1. Canada is definitely worth a trip – it’s a fantastic country and so easy to get around!
I like the retro look – but these are authentically old, no filter needed 🙂

  8. I have always dreamed of going to Canada one day and just taking it all in. When I first started blogging, I found a site and the lady lived in Canada. I thought it was the most beautiful place in the world after looking through all of her photos. And now, after looking through yours, I know it is.

    1. Try and go if you can – you won’t be disappointed! There are so many amazing places to see…
