My 2018 Travel Review

2018 was a good year for me… I did lots of things I enjoyed and had some great holidays!  So this is a brief review of my favourite trips from last year:

Freya’s First Download Festival

It was the first time we had taken Freya to a music festival so we were a little apprehensive about whether she would enjoy it… but we needn’t have worried – she loved it! The music was great and there was plenty to keep her occupied. We’ve already booked for 2019…

A Weekend in Hampshire

Hubby and I went to Hampshire for our wedding anniversary at the end of June.  We stayed at the beautiful hotel (Langrish House) where we had our wedding reception 18 years previously and visited Winchester, where we used to live many years ago. It was such a treat to go back to Langrish House having not visited for many years as we moved away from the area about 12 years ago…

Camping in the Peak District

We had a weekend camping in the Peak District in July with friends.  It was a beautiful campsite, and we enjoyed BBQs and campfires (a rare pleasure nowadays as most campsites don’t allow open fires), as well as a walk through pretty Dovedale. The Peak District is one of my favourite places to walk in the UK (read more here: My Favourite Places to Walk in the UK).

A Week at Center Parcs in the Lake District

I had a lovely family trip to the Lake District in August with my family (8 of us).  We spent lots of time doing activities such as walking, canoeing, swimming, etc.  If you’ve never been to Center Parcs, it’s a great family holiday destination with plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained. You can read more about our trip here: A Family Break at Center Parcs Whinfell Forest.

A Weekend in Weymouth, Dorset

The three of us went to Weymouth for the weekend in October to see a talk by the adventurer, Simon Reeve.  We were also lucky enough to be there for the annual beach motocross event, which was an exciting spectacle to watch! And the weather was beautiful too (if a little chilly)!

A Trip to New York City

In November I went to NYC with my hubby and some friends.  It was a real treat to have some child-free time as we don’t often get any… We did lots of fun things, such as admiring the view over New York from the One World Observatory and seeing the legendary Radio City Christmas Spectacular (find out more at Review: Radio City Christmas Spectacular).

Family Christmas in North Lincolnshire

We went to my in-laws in Barton-upon-Humber for Christmas, which was lovely, as we haven’t had Christmas with them for several years. There were 10 of us for Christmas Day, ranging in age from 3 to 81… so lots of eating, drinking and laughing! And on Boxing Day we got out for a long walk along the pretty Humber Estuary.

So those were some of my highlights for 2018 – what were yours?  Let me know in the comments below…

  1. Happy New Year Kate. Looks like you did some wonderful things in 2018, hope you get to do even more this year. Just spending time together and exploring new places is great isn’t it?

    1. And to you – hope you have a fantastic 2019! I had a fun 2018 and am now looking forward to an even better 2019 – like you say, a lot of it is about who you spend time with as much as the places you visit…

  2. I live a half hour from NYC and still have NOT seen the Radio City Spectacular! Can you believe it? Your travels look amazing!

  3. Sounds like you had some great vacations! Our vacation highlights include our crazy two-week long trip to 5 different states and 7 National Parks as well as our two weeks in Florida. Both of these were over the summer and we had a blast!

    1. I did… and so did you by the sounds of it! 5 different states and 7 NPs in one trip sounds like an epic trip!

  5. Great post! My highlights of the year were going to Hawaii in April, and having adventures with the people I love – I’ve travelled, been to concerts, seen shows and films and generally did a lot of things I love! – Laura

    1. Thank you! Hawaii sounds fab… and, travelling with people you love makes it even more special, doesn’t it! I’m so glad to hear you had a fun year doing lots of things you love too… bring on 2019!

  6. The campsite and the lake district look beautiful. I’ve only ever had the opportunity to visit London in the UK, but we are planning a trip over in 2020 so these will definitely be added to our list

    1. The Lake District is lovely, as is the Peak District – if you are coming over to the UK you should add them to your list of places to visit if you can…

    1. I had a really fun year – hopefully 2019 will be even better! A lot of my travels in 2018 were fairly local (except NYC!)… I think people often forget that you don’t have to go far to have an adventure!

  7. So many wonderful destinations! I did a few small trips last year, but I so much want to visit New York and I hope I can save enough this year for that trip.

    1. I know – I was so lucky to visit so many great places in 2018. Good luck with saving up for NYC… I’m currently saving up for Morocco and Lapland at the moment!

  8. You had so many amazing trips in 2018! I would definitely have to say the highlight of my year has to be going to Europe for the first time and getting to know Paris and Brussels! I also went to Dominican Republic twice, which was also super fun! I can’t wait for 2019! Do you have any trips planned for this year already :)?

    1. Glad you got to travel lots in 2018! So far in 2019 we are going to Lanzarote, the Lake District, Morocco, and hopefully Wales and Lapland! Hope you get to visit lots of places this year too!
