My 2019 Travel Plans

So it’s a new year and that means lots of exciting travel plans to make (or that’s what it means to me at least, lol!)… As usual, my travel plans have changed somewhat in the last month or so, but here is a rough outline of my plans so far for 2019 (although most are still subject to change!!):

We have a week booked at a sports resort in Lanzarote – you can read about our trip there a couple of years ago here: An Active Week at Club La Santa, Lanzarote. I am looking forward to having time to exercise – but it will be lovely to get some warmth/sunshine in the middle of the British winter too…

Couldn’t you just dive right in…

I really want to go on a submarine!! Strange, I know, but I’m intrigued. It has recently come to my attention that there is a submarine museum in Portsmouth so I am determined to go and visit! As Portsmouth is quite a distance from us, we are planning on going down for the weekend (it’s not booked yet, but I’m on it!).

In early June we are off to Download Festival for the weekend, which should be interesting as it will be Freya’s first time camping at a festival! Hopefully she’ll enjoy it (we took her for the day in 2018 and she had fun, so fingers crossed)!

We have booked 3 nights in Keswick in the English Lake District in June whilst Freya is on tour with her school jazz band in Germany.  Whilst we are there we will mainly be out walking and climbing in the mountains (with maybe a bit of kayaking thrown in for good measure) – this is a trip I can’t wait for as the Lake District is probably my favourite part of the UK!

Derwentwater, Keswick

We are (hopefully) off to Marrakech for a few days this month.  It’s somewhere that has been on my bucket list for such a long time so I’m very excited about finally making this trip.

The other trip we have planned for August is a few days in Wales to do some more outdoor activities… The plan is that we will be camping on this trip… so fingers crossed for good weather!

I have been wanting to go to Lapland to see Santa since Freya was tiny – this year I think we will actually make it… yay!

My 19 in 19 Challenge

Also this year, I am also planning on doing the 19 in 19 challenge. This is basically a challenge to do 19 new things in 2019! Some will be travel related (to visit a new city/country), some are experience related (to take a helicopter flight) and some are just random things I’d like to do (learn Arabic, do an outdoor survival course, etc), so watch this space for more details…

Learning some Arabic is one of my 19 in 19…

There will probably be other trips added in as the year progresses but this is what our year looks like at the moment… interspersed with visits to lots of different swimming pools in England to watch Freya compete!!

What have you got planned so far for 2019?  Or are you more of a ‘let’s wait and see what opportunities arise’ person? Let me know in the comments below…

Happy Travelling!

  1. We have a few things planned for the year already. In March, we have the Cub Scout campout which should be interesting because it will be the first time my boys go tent-camping. May will probably see my husband and me up to Dallas for a board game convention. Our big trip is in July… we are going to Florida for 2 1/2 weeks to visit my husband’s grandmother, then do a few days at Disney/Universal, then the boys will go to my parents house while my husband and I stay in Orlando for another board game convention, then we will meet the boys and my parents at our beach timeshare for a week. And we have plans to take the boys to quite a few attractions around Houston this year, too.

  2. I wish I could travel on a whim. Honestly my husband and I have a big trip coming up that is our first big trip in the 4 years we have been married. We are planning to go to Ruidoso NM next weekend for our anniversary. Phone free. Kid Free. it will be a blast

    1. Me too – most of my trips have to be planned due to school, training and work commitments! Have fun on your trip and happy anniversary!

  3. So many great trips to look forward to, especially like the sound of Marrakesh. Never been but it sounds fascinating for a few days. Like the idea of 19 in 19 too, great idea.

    1. I’m very excited about this year, lol! Just booked Marrakech today so I know its actually happening now… and 19 in 19 is already underway! Hope you have a fun and travel-filled 2019 too!

  4. I like to roll with the times, especially for smaller trips. Of my trips last year, only my “big trip” was planned at the beginning of the year. I’m going into this year similarly (have started plans and booking for my big trip to SE Asia) but hope to squeeze in a few little trip when time permits or events come up!

    1. I wish we could work like that too but unfortunately due to school, training and work commitments it’s just not possible… Hope you manage to do some exciting small trips too!

  5. Wow! I need to work on my travel bucket list! This is amazing. So many amazing places, and here I am just wanting to go to the next few states over. Lol

    1. I have such a long bucket list it’s ridiculous, lol! Hopefully we’ll get to all these places this year… hope you have some great trips too!

  6. I love the idea of the 19 in 19! My wife and I recently moved to Tampa FL…. well 2 years ago and there is SOO much we still haven’t done yet. I just told her about it as I was reading this post and we’ll be sitting down to figure out what awesome stuff we can find this year. Great share!

    1. I was going to do 12 in 12 months initially but then I heard about 19 in 19 and thought that sounded more of a challenge lol! It’s amazing what things there are to do locally when you look into it, isn’t it? Let me know how you get on…

  7. Wow, Kate, you have a year planned with great opportunities. I can’t wait for my daughter to graduate this May, so I can be free to resume my travel habit.

  8. 19 in 19 challenge? Cool idea! My big trip this year is to take my family to Hawaii for not-quite-two-weeks. I’ve got a gazillion other micro-goals, too, all broken down as steps toward bigger goals in my bullet journal, but that’s another story for another place 🙂

  9. Planning trips locally or abroad is always fun. I’m excited for you too. The 19 in 19 challenge sounds like fun and I might mentally make a note to try X new things each month.

    1. I love planning trips almost as much as I love taking them, lol! I’m hoping the 19 in 19 will take me outside my comfort zone and make me try some new things…
