Packing List: Winter Sports

So it’s winter sports time again – yay! Except that, unfortunately, we’re not going skiing this year (we’re going to sunnier climes instead – double yay!) but I know a lot of you lucky people are… so here is my winter sports packing list to help you get prepared for a fun week in the snow:

Ready for a day of skiing…

Skiing / Snowboarding Gear

  • Jacket and ski pants
  • Ski/snowboard boots
  • Skis and poles/snowboard (if you are taking your own)
  • Helmet
  • Ski socks x3-4
  • Warm base layers (tops and bottoms) x3-4
  • Long sleeved tops/jumpers x3
  • Gloves or mittens
  • Goggles or sunglasses
  • Buff/neck gaiter
  • Lift pass (if it’s already been issued)
  • Piste map(s)
Enjoying the sunshine in Italy

Evening / Non-Skiing Clothing

  • Plenty of warm clothing – as a minimum:
    • Jumpers or hoodies x3
    • Trousers / jeans x3
    • T-shirts/tops x5
  • Waterproof boots
  • Going out clothes if you plan on hitting the bars and clubs (but bear in mind how cold it will be when the sun sets!)
  • Warm hat, gloves and scarf
  • Nightwear
  • Underwear, incl warm socks
  • Swimsuit (many hotels/resorts have a pool)
  • Indoor shoes (maybe even slippers!) for in the hotel – you don’t want to sit around in wet, outdoor boots in the evening
Every day’s a snow day in Claviere, Italy

Miscellaneous Items

  • Cash and/or credit cards
  • Passport (or you are not going anywhere!)
  • Any tickets/confirmations/itineraries for your trip
  • Day pack
  • Small first aid kit
  • Glasses/contact lenses and solution
  • Any toiletries you usually take on holiday
  • Sunscreen and lip balm (with a high SPF)
  • Regular medications (as well as some form of pain relief for those inevitable mulled wine hangovers!)
  • Phone/devices and charger(s)
  • Books, magazines and games to keep you occupied in the hotel
  • Small snacks (handy for stuffing in your pocket to keep you going during a long day on the slopes)
Having fun in the snow in France!

So this is my basic packing list for a one week winter sports holiday… do you like to ski/snowboard? Anything you think I need to add to my list? Let me know in the comments below…

  1. Packing lists are my thing. They make everything so much easier. I make them for the grocery store, not just a shopping list. A list of what I need to take to the store with me and for what specifically, like coupons, pens…. Lol

  2. We went to Colorado in the winter for a long weekend two years ago. None of us have the proper clothes for that kind of weather! We aren’t planning any ski trips until the boys get older, but I would have no idea where to start since we aren’t used to that weather!

    1. You definitely need the right clothing for this kind of weather – or you end up very cold and very wet lol!

    1. Winter sports aren’t for everyone… I wish we had more chance to do them but we don’t get that kind of weather in England unfortunately!

  3. Such a great starter list for what to pack. I would definitely pack a TON of socks. Sometimes I wear multiple pairs while I’m skiing and depending on the resort we are staying at I go through multiple pairs when we are just hanging around. When we go to Killington the cabin is ski in/ ski out and I always manage to put my foot in a puddle lol.

    1. Thank you… I usually only wear one pair, but my ski boots are pretty comfortable – with hired boots it’s a different story though lol! My socks normally end up soaking from walking around inside in just socks when the floor is wet from people walking in in boots… you’d think I’d have learnt by now wouldn’t you?!

    1. I love going to the beach too (although I can’t sit on one for too long – I get bored pretty easily lol)… and thank you!

  4. I’m a little embarrassed to admit I live in the east coast and never tried snowboarding and skiing. BTW, that is a great gear list you have there for Skiing and Snowboarding.

    1. I was going to say you are so lucky to live somewhere where you get enough snow for skiing/snowboarding… but I guess it’s of no benefit to you if it’s not your thing lol! Thank you – I think it’s pretty comprehensive…

    1. My daughter enjoys skiing – I think it’s great when they start young… they find it so much easier to master. And thank you!

  5. This is such a comprehensive list! I get cold easily, so I often take hand warmers with me when I’ll be outside for extended periods of time.

  6. I’m the apres ski gal so, no winter sports for me. Give me the clothing and I’m stoked. It all looks like great fun.

    1. Don’t blame you… the apres ski is definitely a big part of any winter sports holiday that’s for sure!
